Dress For The Emotion

Did you know that every colour elicits a different unique emotional response? The clothes we wear on certain days actually portrays our emotional state that actual day without us even realising it. I don't know about you but I find this so interesting!

So here are some examples of words that represent our emotional state at the time of what we are wearing and being drawn to a certain colour. Bearing in mind each colour has a positive and negative effect just depends on the emotional state the person is in. Forgot to mention!!! there are four Psychological Primary colours red, blue, yellow and green. They relate respectively to the body, the mind, and our emotions. 


Red:- PHYSICAL STATE

Red is the most powerful of all colours. It has a big focus on our physical state. It is very strong and basic. Pure red is the simplest of all colours. It is stimulating and lively but it can be perceived as demanding and aggressive too.

If wearing red and feeling positive means:  Physical courage, strength, warmth, survival and excitement.

If wearing red and feeling negative means:Defiance, aggression, strain.

Blue:- INTELLECTUAL STATE

Blue is the colour that is linked to our intellectual state. It focuses on our mental state rather than our physical state. It can be seen as the world's favourite colour and very soothing. It is a very calming colour. But if worn in a low emotional state basically can be perceived as cold, unemotional and unfriendly.

If wearing blue and feeling positive means: calmness, trust, intelligence, coolness, reflection.

If wearing blue and feeling negative means: coldness, lack of emotion, unfriendliness.

Yellow:- EMOTIONAL STATE

Yellow is the strongest colour as the stimulus is the emotional state. The right yellow will life our spirits and our self esteem. It is the colour of confidence and optimism. Wearing to much of it can cause self-esteem to crash and become fearful and anxious.

If wearing yellow an feeling positive means  : emotional strength, confidence, self-esteem, friendliness, creativity.

If wearing yellow and feeling negative means:depression. anxiety, fear, emotional fragility.

Green:- Balance

Green is the colour of balance and is a restful colour. It can be perceived as to bland and can indicate stagnation showing a person is confused where they are heading next in their life.

If wearing green and feeling positive means:- harmony, balance, universal love, rest, environmental awareness, peace.

If wearing green and feeling negative means :- boredom, stagnation, blandness.

Grey:-

Grey is the only colour that doesn't have direct psychological properties. Grey can portray a preparation for hibernation. Wearing grey a lot whilst feeling low can portray lack of confidence and fear to exposure.

If wearing grey and feeling positive means:- neutrality

If wearing grey and feeling negative means:-  lack of confidence, dampness, depression, hibernation, lack of energy.

Black:-

Black is a very common colour that many people like to wear. It's easily absorbed. It creates protective barriers. People kind of hide behind the colour black. Black is an absence of light can be worn feeling emotionally confused and low but on a positive note it's a colour people wear to feel sexy and glamorous. It also creates a perception of seriousness.

If wearing black and feeling positive means :- Sophistication, glamour, security, emotional safety

If wearing black and feeling negative means:- oppression, coldness, menace, heaviness.

Pink:-

Pink is a colour that soothes rather than stimulates. It is a powerful colour and represents the feminine principle of being a nurturer. But wearing to much pink can be draining.

If wearing pink and feeling positive means:- physical tranquility, nurture, warmth, femininity, love, sexuality.

If wearing pink and feeling negative means:- physical weakness, emotional claustrophobia.



White:-

White is the colour for reflection. Wearing this colour symbolises a person reflects and is a great thinker. But it can have a major opposite effect if a person is feeling low. It can show that someone doesn't want any contact and can be stand offish.

If wearing white and feeling positive means:- sophistication, simplicity efficiency.

If wearing white and feeling negative means:-  unfriendliness, coldness, shocked.

Orange:-

Since it is a combination of red and yellow, orange is a stimulating reaction to our physical and emotional state. But it is a very fun colour to wear.

If wearing orange and feeling positive means:-  warmth, security, passion, sensuality, fun.

If wearing orange and feeling negative means:- immaturity, frustration, deprivation.

Brown:-

Brown associates with the earth and natural world so wearing this colour shows balance as it consists of red and yellow so it portrays physical and emotional feelings. It's a colour that represents solid ground and people wear it when they feel supported and content again depending on how you are feeling when wearing it at that point in time.

If wearing brown and feeling positive means:-  Seriousness, support, warmth, reliability.

If wearing brown and feeling negative means:- lack of humour, lack of sophistication, heaviness.
